Overview

 

This procedure calculates the covariance for each pair of variables.  Like the correlation coefficient, it can be used to test if variables are correlated. 

 

 

 

 

 

How to

 

1.       Choose ProcessMA > Statistics > Basic Statistics > Covariance.

 

2.       In Variables, select the columns containing the data you want to correlate.

 

3.       Click OK.

 

 

Note       To select a column of data into a textbox, double-click on any of the column names shown in the list on the left of the dialog box while in the textbox.

Variables: Numeric.

               

 

 

 

 

Example

 

You have data on the sales revenue, number of sales representatives on the field, the amount spent on marketing and the range of products offered.  You want to find out if there are correlated.

 

1.       Open worksheet ProcessMA > Tools > Data Files > Regression.xls.

 

2.       Choose ProcessMA > Statistics > Basic Statistics > Covariance.

 

3.       In Variables, select C – Sales, D – Reps, E – Marketing, F – Products.

 

4.       Click OK.
