Overview

 

The Histogram is a type of bar charts where bars are intervals of continuous data and the height of the bars represent the frequency for that interval.  The Histogram can be used to visualise the distribution of the data.

 

 

 

 

 

How to

 

1.       Choose ProcessMA > Graphs > Histogram.

 

2.       In Variable, select the column containing the data

 

3.       Click OK.

 

 

Optional

 

4.       Check Plot normal curve, if you want to plot a theoretical normal curve.

 

5.       Check Plot percentage, if you want to plot a percent histogram.

 

6.       In Interval, select a column containing interval positions, otherwise intervals will be automatically generated.

 

 

Note       To select a column of data into a textbox, double-click on any of the column names shown in the list on the left of the dialog box while in the textbox.

 

 

 

 

 

Data

 

Variable: Numeric.

               

Interval: Numeric.

 

 

 

 

 

Example

 

You work in manufacturing plant and you need to make sure that the diameter of the parts manufactured is 300mm ± 3mm to meet technical specifications.  You want to generate a histogram to visualise the distribution.

 

1.       Open worksheet ProcessMA > Tools > Data Files > Control.xls.

 

2.       Choose ProcessMA > Graphs > Histogram.

 

3.       In Variable, select L – Diameter.

 

4.       Check Plot normal curve.

 

5.       Click OK.
