Affinity Diagram

Affinity Diagram is a technique that allows a project team to group a large number of ideas into related categories. It is useful for organising facts, opinions and issues into natural groups to help diagnose a complex situation or find themes among them.

Steps

  1. Gather ideas generated.
  2. Write ideas on cards (one idea per card).
  3. Post cards randomly on a board or flip chart.
  4. Allow the group to organise the cards into clusters.
  5. Create a ‘theme’ (label) that captures the essence of each cluster
